Cargo Compartment Ceiling Lights

MEL 33-04 [Lower Cargo Compartment Ceiling Light System]. If the diffuser (lens / light cover) is broken or missing, remove the bulb to avoid a fire. Each ceiling light has a built-in microswitch that cuts power if the lens is not installed — that microswitch is for bulb replacement only. The bulb must still be removed if the lens is broken. Lights in the cargo door frames (forward and aft) have no lens.

Cargo ceiling lighting extinguishes automatically when the cargo door closes — so you cannot leave it ON to carry live animals (AVI) in the hold.

Si l’indication porte est normale et tout l’éclairage plafond cargo INOP → vérifier P18-3E.If the entire cargo ceiling system is INOP, make sure it is not a failed door contact. If the amber FWD/AFT CARGO light does not illuminate with the door open, the door contact is confirmed failed → dispatch MEL 52-03 NOGO(M) — maintenance required. If door indication is normal and all cargo ceiling lighting is INOP → check P18-3E.
Compass Light

To re-lamp the standby magnetic compass: pull P6-3A14, then remove the light assembly (flat screw knob below or above the compass window). No spare bulb (#MGG-32728 or #MS25237) in the kit — dispatch the compass light INOP under MEL 33-01, or the entire compass under MEL 34-11 [Non-Stabilized Magnetic Compass].

Emergency Escape Path — photoluminescent

MEL 33-19 [Floor Proximity Emergency Escape Path Marking System] (as installed). On aircraft with photoluminescent floor marking, leave enough time before boarding to charge the strips — FCOM 1.40.x table [Interior Emergency Lighting]. Overhead bins must be closed to improve charging!

Dommages aux bandes → MEL 33-19-02 ou AMM 33-51-15.MEL 33-02 does not cover the strips themselves, but the other cabin lights needed to charge them. Strip damage → MEL 33-19-02 or AMM 33-51-15.

NOGO → GO via Exit U/SNOGO → GO via Exit U/S
An inoperative interior or exterior emergency light is not mentioned in the MEL for passenger flight → therefore NOGO. You can still GO by treating the associated exit door as fully U/S and reducing passenger count — see Exit Unserviceable.
Flight Deck Lighting

But only the following are available on standby power:

(*) Flight Deck Exit Light : MEL 33-51-01 — requis pour opérations de nuit.(*) Flight Deck Exit Light: MEL 33-51-01 — required for night operations.

Landing Lights

MEL 33-08 [Landing Lights]. No written usage limit, but it is recommended to limit inboard landing lights on the ground to 5 minutes.

Position Lights

Position lights (“navigation” / wingtip) on leading and trailing edge of each tip. Leading edge: red or green as in maritime navigation. Facing another 737: steady red on the left (Captain), steady green on the right (F/O). Steady white on the trailing edge of each tip.

Spare Bulbs
Use exact bulb part numbers. Same size / base ≠ same voltage / amperage — risk of short, overheat, flight-deck smoke. Wrong lamp in a squib indicator could fire the engine extinguisher. Several lights are NOGO / NOGO(M) MEL 33 with no onboard spare — verify a spare exists before removing a lamp.

System Lights — interchange

EMDP OVERHEAT hydraulique ↔ window heat. Each light type (amber, blue, green, red) has a unique keying (cut on the upper rear of the cap) to prevent wrong insertion. But for identical legends, lights from different systems are interchangeable — e.g. hydraulic EMDP OVERHEAT ↔ window heat.

Impossible si mélange Korry 319 (ancien) et 318 (nouveau).A failed / missing module (or NOGO MEL) may be swapped with the same light from a less restrictive system. Impossible if mixing Korry 319 (old) and 318 (new).

OVERHEAT LOW PRESSURE

A/P Disengage). Some blue fuel / anti-ice lights do not dim/bright (dual function). The blue Fuel Valve Crossfeed does not respond to light test during auxiliary tank fueling. Some have no push-to-test because push inhibits/resets (e.g. BELOW G/S) or is bi-color (e.g. A/P Disengage).

DIM Control défaillant : modules OK en BRT seulement → Lights Switch BRT et dispatch MEL 33-23 [Master Dim System].Failed DIM Control: modules OK in BRT only → Lights Switch BRT and dispatch MEL 33-23 [Master Dim System].

Taxi Light

Turn off the taxi light behind a Follow Me (driver’s eyes). Turn lights off approaching the stand so you do not blind the marshaller / ground crew.

Ceiling lights not required for dispatch. Inspection floods required at night to see the gear via the floor mirror system.

As installed: some pax + all cargo have secondary MAIN indicators on aft overhead → night: nose gear inspection flood required. Others have secondary NOSE & MAIN → may dispatch with all wheel-well flood lights INOP.
